Security Features
Vaultaire combines local AES-256-GCM encryption, pattern-derived access, encrypted cloud options, and explicit recovery controls. No identity account is required, and readable vault content is not sent to a Vaultaire-operated storage server.
Pattern Encryption
Draw a shape on a 5×5 grid. PBKDF2 combines that pattern with a device-wide salt to derive a 256-bit vault key, which unlocks the random master key protecting your files.
Learn More →Secret Phrase
Every vault can use a custom nine-word recovery phrase. The phrase derives a separate recovery key that opens an encrypted access envelope; it does not encode or regenerate the vault key directly.
Learn More →Plausible Deniability
Separate configured patterns address separate encrypted vaults without a visible cross-vault picker. This limits interface disclosure, while encrypted index count remains visible to filesystem examination.
Learn More →Hidden Vaults
Vaultaire shows no cross-vault list in the unlock interface. Encrypted index contents remain private, though an examiner with app-container access can count one encrypted index file per local vault.
Learn More →Duress Mode
Set a special pattern that opens one designated vault while silently removing other vault indexes and local recovery mappings from that device. Encrypted cloud backups remain available for phrase-based recovery.
Learn More →Encrypted iCloud Backup
Optional backup where a separate pattern-derived backup key encrypts padded records before CloudKit receives them. Apple does not receive readable vault files or a plaintext backup key.
Learn More →Secure Sharing
Share an encrypted, read-only vault through iCloud using a one-time phrase.
Learn More →Device Sync
Keep an encrypted vault in sync across your own Apple devices through your private iCloud database.
Learn More →Secure Camera
Take photos and record video inside Vaultaire without adding the capture to your Photos library.
Learn More →Security Architecture
AES-256-GCM protects file content, metadata, thumbnails, indexes, and key wrappers. PBKDF2 derives separate vault, backup, and recovery keys for their defined roles.
Learn More →Ease of Use
Military-grade encryption that feels like unlocking your phone. No setup wizards, no configuration. Draw a pattern and start protecting files.
