No backup waits, shared vault joins and clean restores
Opening photos and videos and importing no longer wait for an iCloud backup, joining a shared vault on a device with another device's vault data opens the recovery screen, and Restore Purchases no longer shows an error when you close the App Store sign-in sheet.

Kept changes, quick notes and original cleanup
A change made right after the vault reloads is kept, notes save without waiting, and deleting originals skips photos that cannot be deleted.

- Notes save at once. Saving a note no longer waits while a photo or video opens.
- Deleting originals works. After an import, photos that cannot be deleted, such as photos synced from a computer, stay in Photos, and the rest are deleted.
Slideshow, iPhone Duo and faster imports
Play files as a slideshow, use both iPhone Duo displays, and import and scroll without waiting.
- With Pro, choose Slideshow in the viewer menu. Each photo shows for 5 seconds, and each video plays to its end.
- Ready for iPhone Duo. On the outer display, the vault buttons move to the side strip. The inner display gets the same layout as iPad. When the phone is folded, the grid, the viewer and the pattern lock stay clear of the hinge. Opening or closing the phone keeps the vault unlocked and the viewer on the same photo.
- Photos and videos import faster, also while an iCloud backup runs. The grid and the viewer stay smooth while files load, import or back up. While a large file saves, other files and thumbnails still open. An empty tile now loads its thumbnail again, and opening a photo that has none adds one.
- Trial details on iPad. In landscape, the subscribe button no longer covers the free trial status. A shared vault sync now stops before it fills your device, so imports keep working.
Import progress, original cleanup and vaults that still open
Long videos show their import progress and play as you swipe, Vaultaire can delete the originals after an import, and a vault with missing data still opens.
- A long video shows each import step with a percentage until it is in your vault. A video starts on its own when you swipe to it and keeps playing during imports and backups. Drag the playback bar and the picture moves with it.
- After you add photos or files, Vaultaire can delete the originals for you. Photos keeps deleted originals in Recently Deleted for 30 days. Tap Don't Ask Again to stop the question, and turn it back on in Settings. When you add photos, drag your finger across them to pick many at once.
- If some of a vault's data is missing from this device, the vault now opens and marks the files it cannot show. Open a marked file to save what remains of it, or delete it as usual.
- The vault no longer locks right after a long import ends. A large export no longer holds up other files and thumbnails. With a keyboard, the arrow keys show the next or previous photo or video. If you change a shared vault while it is still uploading, your change now waits its turn instead of failing. If a backup finds a damaged file, it now stops and tells you instead of trying again and again.
App icons, notes and a full-screen viewer
Vaultaire Pro can switch the app icon, you can write encrypted notes, and one tap fills the screen with a photo or video.
- With Vaultaire Pro, pick Calculator, Printer or one of five other icons in Settings > App Icon. On iOS 18 and later, Shortcuts can also add a Home Screen tile with that icon and a name you choose. Every icon opens Vaultaire, which still asks for your pattern.
- Tap a photo or video to hide the bars and fill the screen. Videos have their own bar below the picture, with a scrubber, 10-second skips and a volume slider. Write encrypted notes from the + menu, and rename any file from its menu or the viewer.
- After a direct transfer to a new iPhone, Vaultaire can open your vault with its iCloud backup, or delete the files it cannot open to free space.
- A damaged thumbnail no longer stops every backup, an older copy of a vault can no longer overwrite newer changes, and cleanup no longer deletes files during a restore. A backup that fails, such as when iCloud is full, waits before it tries again. A file you delete while a shared vault updates no longer stops the update, and thumbnails no longer go blank after a restore.
Faster backup, sync and sharing
Backups, sync and shared vault updates finish sooner, and videos with a time in their name play on the first try.
- A backup sends more files at once on a fast network and no longer checks every waiting file again after each upload. Sync downloads several parts at once, skips what did not change, and retries a slow download instead of giving up.
- A shared vault update copies less before it uploads and removes old parts in batches, and it no longer uploads twice when you return to the app. A sync removes each deleted file in one pass.
- Photos synced into a new vault show their thumbnails, videos with a time in their name play on the first try, HDR videos keep their full color depth when Vaultaire makes them smaller, and opening a large file from an older vault uses less memory.
Folders and custom order
Put files in folders and arrange them by hand, videos loop and start sooner, and a vault on a locked iPhone is no longer reported as damaged.
- Make folders, put folders inside folders, and move files into them. Choose Custom Order to arrange files by hand. Each folder keeps its own order, and backup, sync and shared vaults keep the layout.
- A video plays again when it reaches its end, and it starts playing while Vaultaire decrypts the rest of it. Each vault remembers its own sort order and file filter.
- A vault iOS refuses while your iPhone is locked is no longer reported as damaged, an interrupted import recovers faster, error messages appear in your language, and new shared vaults are harder to guess.
A new storage format
Vaults move to a new storage format on their own, shared vaults open on any Apple ID, and videos play or say why they cannot.
- Your vaults move to a new storage format after you open them. The move checks every file before it switches, and file names on your iPhone no longer show which vault a file belongs to. Update Vaultaire on every device you sync.
- Shared vaults open on another Apple ID, a video that cannot play shows an error instead of a black screen, and swiping moves between photos and videos.
- Vault settings show a vault's size and can free the space deleted files still hold, a damaged vault loses less, and What's New appears once after each update.
Imports that finish
Large videos import reliably, and a vault that will not open has a way back.
- Videos that stalled during import now finish, and large files no longer use memory in proportion to their size.
- Unlocking no longer waits behind an import, and a vault that will not open shows a recovery screen with Repair.
- Safer backup and sync: Vaultaire asks before a sync removes most of a vault, and a file you deleted stays deleted.
Restores that bring files back
Backup restore works on a second device, and pattern changes no longer need iCloud.
- Restoring an encrypted backup on a second device now brings your files back.
- Changing your pattern works when iCloud is unavailable, and your backup updates on its own later.
- Vaultaire Pro plans use one consistent layout on iPad, in every language.
Swipe through videos
Easier video browsing, and imports keep the order you choose.

Guided backup rebuild

Rotate and send feedback
Rotate previews, send feedback from Settings, and backups that recover after an interruption.
- Photos and document previews rotate with your phone, and Rotate clockwise turns a preview 90 degrees without changing the file.
- Send feedback from Settings, with an optional email for a reply.
- Encrypted iCloud backups recover after an interruption, show upload progress, and skip duplicate backups.
- Share errors anonymously is on by default and can be turned off in Settings.

Encrypted iCloud backup comes to the Free plan, and you can capture photos and video straight into the vault.
- Encrypted Backup is included with Free and Pro. Free covers up to 3 vaults, 100 photos, and 10 videos. Multi-device sync stays a Pro feature.
- Your vault is encrypted on your device before the backup reaches your private iCloud account.
- Take photos and record video inside Vaultaire without adding them to your Photos library first. Preview a clip before you keep it, choose whether to record audio, and watch videos in landscape.
- Imports, backups, restores, sharing, thumbnails, and large vaults are more resilient, and interrupted work is easier to recover.
- Duress protection, recovery lockouts, secret handling, permissions, and accessibility have all been tightened.

Vaultaire arrives on the App Store
The first public release: an encrypted vault for photos, videos, and documents, unlocked with a pattern you draw.
